DUI Child Neglect
A minor was in the car while a fifty-one-year-old woman was arrested for suspension of driving under the influence (DUI) and for DUI child neglect. The incident happened on May 9th, 2018 and was reported by CarsonNow.
Prior to the arrest, several individuals had noticed the lady driving erratically on the street. One of these individuals was an off-duty officer who called in the license plate because she nearly hit him head-on. The police officers looked for the driver for a while until they spotted her at the corner of South Carson and Eagle Lane. During the stop, the driver hit the curb while entering a parking lot where the policeman proceeded to engage the driver. Immediately she got out of the car and started yelling at the officer. He instructed her to get back into the car. She repeatedly used profanities at the officer questioning him why he pulled her over. She thought it was because someone from the previous place of business, a dance studio, reported her. The officer did not know what she was talking about. Upon further engagement, with the suspect, the officer saw a child in the backseat. In addition, there was a half-filled bottle of vodka on the floor of the front passenger side of the automobile. The officer then proceeded to perform a field sobriety test however the woman refused. The woman was arrested and per her instructions, the officer called her husband so that he could pick up the child. At the station, the woman continued being difficult and a seizure order for blood samples was requested and granted. Also, a breath sample was finally given and it resulted in a .198. Bail for the woman was set at around four thousand dollars. It is not clear whether or not the woman posted bail.
