DUI Accident – A house that had been in the family since 1950 was destroyed and marked as not fit for living by the city as the result of two cars racing. The driver of the car that hit the house was arrested on Suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI). The car was a Dodge Challenger and the accient happened late at night. The Dodge Challenger broke through two fences and crashed into the dining room and kitchen The family says that it will rebuild as the house has a lot of sentimental value as the owner grew up there with his four sisters. Currently he lives there with his sister and his Mom. They are very thankful that no one was hurt during the tragedy.
There was no mention of the other car or cars that were also racing. It is not known if it was only one or many cars that were involved in the drag racing.
The owner says that there are races going up and down the street all the time. Street racing has been a big problem in southern California for year and results in a lot of deaths. Over 180 people have died in Los Angeles County since the year 2000 are a result of street racing. Although the Los Angeles police department has tried to control street racing it is very hard to do. There are city ordanceses against this activity however it is very hard to spot or curtail before an accident of this type happens. It is very sad to see that a family’s long time residence was destroyed because of the carelessness of some invdividuals who want to race fast cars down the street.
