Aggravated DWI

Sunday, May 20th, 2018,  representative state lawmaker Monica Youngblood was arrested for an aggravated DWI.  As of this writing here are the facts that are known so far:

  • Monica Youngblood, who is 41 years old, is a Republican lawmaker in New Mexico who was elected in 2013 to the house of representatives district 68
  • She was stopped at a sobriety checkpoint in a BMW that was registered to her.
  • Field sobriety test was performed at the scene of the arrest
  • She refused the breath test multiple times
  • She is caught on video multiple times detailing her political stance on supporting the police, in what appears to be an effort to avoid arrest.  The video can be seen on YouTube.
  • She stated to officers that she had not been drinking.
  • She was released from jail on her own recognizance (ROR).
    • ROR is when the defendant states in writing to the court that they promise to show up to a future scheduled court appearance and in the meantime will not engage in illegal activities.
  • The representative’s arraignment is scheduled for June 13th, 2018
  • A conviction of aggravated DWI would mean a mandatory 48 hours in jail.
